Aln Valley Update (2)

The Aln Valley Miniature Railway Update (2)

12/03/2022

Things are moving quickly on the Aln Valley Miniature Railway!

With a lot of the ballast now down, it’s time to move onto the next stage which includes levelling and track work.

We’ve made good progress with the point which will form a spur off the main running line.

We’re now working out rolling stock allocation, we’ve got a new carriage and a new locomotive which we’ll be posting about shortly!

We’ve also got a load of great portable events coming up soon too - we’re particularly excited for our Ushaw over Easter, where train rides are free for visitors! See Ushaw’s post for more info.

Work continues on the point - this included cutting and drilling sleepers to fit. Once these were attached, I then used one of our heaviest bogies to run over the point to test the check rail clearances and frog. It will still require work but it's progressing at a steady pace.

Further work on ballasting has been undertaken, the line is now mostly ballasted and the area near the station has been dug out - all that's left to do now is to add gravel to the platform area (and level off the rest of the line).
